Flamingo's in Kuwait!!
Flamingo's in Kuwait!! Flamingo's in Kuwait ....click for ALBUM Flamingo, technically the 'Greater Flamingo' or scientifically 'Phoenicopterus roseus' are on a state visit to Kuwait. Although an annual event, very few people are aware that these beautiful birds actually turn up every year during this period. These birds migrate primarily for food or water level changes or to escape harsh winters. It usually frequents sewage treatment pans, inland dams, estuaries and coastal waters, seldom alighting on freshwater but commonly bathing and drinking from freshwater inlets entering alkaline or saline lakes. It nests and roosts on sandbanks, mudflats, islands or boggy, open shores. And it feeds on crustaceans (especially brine shrimp), molluscs, annelid worms, larval aquatic insects, small fish, adult terrestrial insects etc. Really interesting isn't it..........Click Here to read more........Click here to check out the PHOTO ALBUM of Flamingo's in Kuwait.

Winged Guests Flock to Deepor Beel
Ruddy Shelduck
The long distance travelers have landed on schedule and what a sight they offer! Deepor Beel is witnessing the arrival of migratory birds, and as the mercury drops, more would be touching down on the biggest wetland west of Guwahati. Many of the birds have travelled thousands of kilometers from their summer homes which are beginning to freeze and where food has become scarce at this time of the year. Some have travelled over the Himalayan ranges revealing their ability to fly in high altitude and extreme cold conditions.
Noted bird watcher Lakkhan Teron, said that a good number of species have been spotted, including the Gadwall, Northern Pintail, tufted duck, Great Grebe, Black-Headed gull, Plover among others. A large number of Ruddy Shelduck with their distinctive bright plumage have also been documented this year.
Nature lovers are enthused, with many embarking on languorous walks by the shores of the Ramsar Site to spot the vast array of birds. Boat rides offer some possibilities of watching birds as reported by some recent visitors to the wetland.
We suggest to all AAK members, those of who are fortunate to be in the homeland during winter, to visit this wetland park and spend some memorable moments. Don’t forget to carry your Canons and Nikons.

Stunning Photo of Eclipse in Mars!!
CLICK FOR PHOTO GALLERY
NASA's Mars rover Curiosity has snapped stunning shots of a brief partial solar eclipse on the Red Planet, capturing images of the tiny Martian moon Phobos crossing the face of the sun.
Curiosity took the photos of Phobos on Thursday (Sept. 13), roughly five weeks after landing inside the Red Planet's huge Gale Crater on Aug. 5.
The images, taken with Curiosity's Mast Camera (Mastcam), look very different than the solar eclipses on Earth that we're used to. That's because our planet's moon is about 2,160 miles across (3,476 kilometers), big enough to block out the solar disk entirely when Earth, moon and sun are perfectly aligned. Even partial eclipses of the sun by our moon are impressive celestial events.
While Phobos orbits much closer to Mars than our moon does to Earth, it's just 14 miles across (22 km) on average. So Phobos takes only a small bite out of the sun during a Martian solar eclipse. Mars other moon, Deimos, is even smaller and farther away from the Red Planet's surface than Phobos, so it blots out even less of the sun when crossing — or transiting — the solar disk. Many scientists think both Phobos and Deimos are asteroids that Mars' gravity captured long ago.
The eclipse photos were no lucky occurrence. Curiosity scientists and mission managers had been planning to snap them for a while, and the rover will likely take more such images in the coming days and weeks.

This Week’s Question: Will Yogurt Make Me Fat?
By Mansi Kohli in healthmeup.com
If you're worried about how much yogurt is enough, and if yogurt will make you fat in larger amounts, then look no further. The answer lies in the fact that yogurt is not a fat-burning food (Obviously no food actually burns fat)! It is all about understanding the science behind a particular food, in this case - yogurt, and gaining an understanding about the potential health benefits or hazards, which will guide you in making informed and wise dietary decisions. However, having said that, it is important to note that eating non-fat yogurt might help in displacing empty calories in your diet, thus promoting weight loss. Today, with expert inputs from Neelanjana Singh, Nutritionist at Heinz Nutrition Foundation India (New Delhi) let us understand the dietary composition of yogurt and whether it will really make you fat or not...READ-ON.

Al Hashemi II:: PARIMITA BAROOAH BORA
Parimita writes "If you plan to visit Kuwait or stay in Kuwait, you should visit the Al Hashemi II. Whenever anyone visits us from India, we never forget to show them this majestic wooden ship of gigantic proportion which raises high above the Radisson SAS Hotel. This impressive structure is the realization of one man's vision and dedication to preserve Kuwait's maritime heritage for the future generations. Apart from bringing back memories of those graceful bygone days of sail, it has been recognized by Guiness World Records as the largest wooden dhow in the world."

Farewell to two of our Members
With a heavy heart we bid adieu to families of two of our very active members Mr. Aghore /Bobby Bhattacharya and Shyamal / Misilu Baruah. They have always played a key role in all activities undertaken by our association. Without them our cultural forays into the world of music will not be the same again. They have certainly moved on to greener pastures and will definitely reach greater heights. But our loss is certainly somebody else's gain. So you will probably find them someday on a stage bigger than ours. We wish them all the success in life. Do visit our PHOTOS page for photographs of the Farewell Party.
